mychai's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need to quit injesting regretful things.

I swear to all that is good and holy.

I will not ever, never, any more in my entire life, eat a whole pot of four-bean soup. Not only will my body thank me for this, but so will the people at the gym, the neighbors upstairs, and the paint on the walls that is quickly curling and cracking.

But other than that, I'm doing great! How about yourself? Gooooooood.

I watched most of the Grammys tonight, though I slept through Norah's performance. If I had the flexibility to do so, I would reach back and kick myself in the lazy ass. She's my girl. My dreamy. Ahhh.

This was actually the first Grammy Awards show that I wanted to see in -- well -- pretty much ever. In fact, I've bought the majority of albums that were up for Album of the Year: Norah, Dixie Chicks, and Bruce.

Someone on the Today Show this morning said that Grammy people were starting to nominate people who appeal to older listeners because the older folks don't download MP3s instead of spending money on the albums.

From what I could tell from cruising the channels in previous years, this really was a much more grown-up version of the grammys. I think the youngest performer was Averil, and she was even relatively (relative to Britney) modestly dressed.

I actually turned on the TV when the Dixie Chicks were playing. I knew then that it was going to be a great show to have playing in the background. I did have to reach around and change the channel when Whoa-Nellie, or whatever is name is -- came on. I can't even tolerate crap for a few minutes. I also had to turn it when Meni Me/M&M/Whatever came on. Ugh. I honestly don't understand how people can stand listening to it for any length of time.

Bruce was good, as usual. But damn if Robin Williams wasn't completely dying up there. I think he didn't get the note that was the "More Mature Year" at the Grammys. The phrases of the night didn't include "werd to my homies" over and over again.

So, yeah. It was a good First Grammy Watching for me. I hope the music trend keeps appealing to the more mature tastes in music and continues to go farther away from the bubblegum pop crowd.

I sat over the weekend and planned my travels once I quit my job. And there have been a few developments since the last time I brought it up.

My Air Force buddy won't be able to come along with me. His family wants to do one of those crazy "family vacation" things before he gets shipped off. And they want to do it right in the middle of my proposed travel plans.

So... No AF base hopping. Bummer.

But, being the quick travel planner that I am, I made a quick turn-around and did some different planning.

I went to St. Louis at the end of last week and visited the Amtrak station there. I picked up the schedule, and got a nifty idea. I've never been to Canada, and Amtrak has a partnership with Canada's VIA Rail. I can go for 30 days, with unlimited stops, for one low price.

So, between March 18 and April 18, I will be trekkin' it through Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City. Then, I will head down to New York and New Jersey, back through Chicago -- where BOTH of my Lisas will be at the time -- and finally back here just in time for April's Air Force DEP meeting.

This will end up costing not too much money at all, and I get to tour an area of America I've never visited, a country I've never visited, and I get to see two of my all-time best friends. And I get to do it all by rail, which isn't a terribly bad way to go. It's a lot longer than plane rides, but you get to see so much more and talk to a lot of neat people.

What do you all think? Heck, you talked me into taking the trip. I should at least get some comments about what you think of my planned route.

Finally, there is a possibility I may be leaving my job earlier than expected.

But first... remember that I used to work at the ABC-affiliate station in town? I quit after we got an evil new boss who, three months after he got the job, he had two harrassment complaints from other workers and was working on a third one from yours truly. He was truly evil, but it took the station months and months to find someone desperate enough to work there, so they never fired him.

Well, our chief engineer at my current station retired at the end of December, and we have been searching for a new one ever since. One has been hired, and a rumor has been going around that the new guy is -- you guessed it -- former evil boss.

If that's the case, I will quit on the spot. I refuse to work for that guy.

So... yeah. My extended vacation could be ending as early as this week or next week. I'll let you know as soon as it is announced.

Actually, this week would be a good week to quit. We got a whole new system for our commercial logs. I'm going to have to learn how to fill them out correctly, type them into our computer system, ad nausium, all for two weeks' worth of work. Eck.
